Born in Monroe, Georgia, Leslie Wilkes received a BA from the University of Texas and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has had solo exhibitions in Dallas, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Austin, Marfa and Milan. Her work was published in New American Paintings #55, New American Talent #15, and published on the book jacket of James Elkins, The Object Stares Back. Her work was featured in Glasstire’s Glass Houses in 2009. She attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and was the recipient of the Milton and Sally Avery Fellowship Award at the MacDowell Colony. Her work has been reviewed in The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Denver Times, The Dallas Morning News, Southwest Spirit Magazine, Big Bend Sentinel, and New Art Examiner. She was a Lecturer and Graduate Program Manager at California College of the Arts in San Francisco from 2001-2005. Wilkes is a painter, gardener, and a radio DJ and resides in Marfa, Texas.
