Opening Reception: Saturday, November 4, 6 – 8 pm
Octavia Art Gallery is pleased to present Errol Barron: Recent Work. Without an overt theme, Errol Barron’s recent work seeks primarily to convey the pleasures and mysteries of curiosity, speculation, and reflection. The painted subjects are observed as well as imagined and reflect a desire to expose the ambiguity in the natural and man-made. Within this body of work Barron conveys his deep affection for the overlooked and everyday objects and places we often take for granted. His goal is to find the strange, hidden, and unusual in the familiar.
Trained as an architect who practiced until 2016, Barron now works primarily as a painter. For many years he has taught at the Tulane University School of Architecture and is a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects. In 2012, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Louisiana Architects Association and in 1995 the Gabriel Prize from the Western European Architecture Foundation.
Barron is the author of five books with paintings that correspond to the text, recording his experiences in Rome, Paris, New Orleans, and Chaing Mai, Thailand, as well as on the Tulane campus. He is a graduate of Tulane and Yale Universities, and his work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally since 1984.
