Octavia Art Gallery is pleased to introduce new Botanical Candy paintings by artist D.Paul DeRouen. No Flower Grows Unseen will be the artist’s first solo exhibition with Octavia Art Gallery.
DeRouen’s Botanical Candy series is an exploration of how the simplicity of bright, colorful botanicals, inspired by nature, can offer a reflective light on our souls. His contemporary approach encompasses colorful abstract backgrounds and subtle hints of motion combined with the addition of forced and natural lines that embody the elements of light, space, and balance. His process is always experimental and fresh, entailing a never-ending drive to capture a moment in time, both real and fantastical.
D.Paul DeRouen was born and raised in Jennings, Louisiana, a region with vibrant culture and distinctive geographical landscapes. His father’s welding and fabrication shop was often his place of creativity and curiosity as a child. The distinct materials, methods, and compositions, along with the sheer beauty of metal, became a significant source of inspiration and direction for his future. Always artistic and creative in nature, DeRouen decided it was time to pursue his own artistic passion, which embraces all of his creative experiences, from the early inspirations of his father's fabrication shop to his years in architectural practice.
DeRouen studied Architecture at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture in 2000. He has been practicing Architecture for nearly 20 years. D.Paul lives, works, and creates in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
