Eliza Thomas

Eliza Thomas is an Austin-based artist who was born in Boston and grew up in both Austin and New Orleans. Thomas's work is an investigation of the natural world and a response to place. Her paintings and drawings are portraits of the immediate environment, of moments in time therein. Thomas' recent works on paper and paintings were made by the ocean, or by the banks of various creeks and rivers. The accompanying sound of water was a crucial element in her process. Thomas' works study the movement and flow of water, the reflections of light on and beneath the surface, and the nature of water.

Thomas attended Columbia University's Barnard College, where she studied Italian and Art History, earning a B.A. in 1996. Thomas received her training privately at Parsons School of Design and, since 2003, at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
